Historic Hanna’s Town Historic Hanna’s Town was established in 1773 as the first county seat west of the Allegheny Mountains. Today, Hanna’s Town is undergoing restoration through the efforts of the Westmoreland County Historical Society.Excavations have produced about one million artifacts, 12 acres of homes, a stockade, and the location of the Route The site is open to regularly scheduled guided tours, and both historical and cultural programs are conducted on site. Ann Rudd Saxman Nature Park Although small in size, Ann Rudd Saxman Nature Park offers limitless opportunities to observe and study our natural world. Conservationist, botanist, landscape designer and master gardener, Ann was an advocate of soil and water conservation, open space, composting and recycling. In 1996, the park was rededicated in her honor and an adjacent 10 wooded acres that were originally part of Ann’s farm were added to the park.

Sewickley Creek Wetlands The Sewickley Creek Wetlands Interpretive Area is a 21-acre environmental education area with trails and an observation deck. The site is dedicated to natural study and observation of plants and animals.  A wetland is a combination of soils, plants, and water, characterized by the dominance of moisture in the soil. Many of the plants depend on water, even though the soils may appear dry. Sewickley Creek Wetlands is a man-made wetland built by the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission to replace those that were affected by the construction of the Amos K. Hutchinson Bypass.

Chestnut Ridge Park  Photo Credit: Jim Mayes Chestnut Ridge Park is a multi-purpose flood control dam site at Jacob’s Creek atop Chestnut Ridge. The park features a 25-acre recreational pool that expands during flood periods and includes a boat launch area. Boating, fishing, hunting, and other outdoor sport opportunities are available as well. Read our Boating Rules and Regulations. Chestnut Ridge Park is located near Acme, one mile south of State Route 31 between Mount Pleasant and Donegal.
