Westmoreland County March for Parks

March for Parks Saturday, March 25, 2017   The March For Parks is THREE times the fun! We’re holding Marches at three locations in 2017: Twin Lakes Park, Cedar Creek Park, and the Turtle Creek Extension of the Westmoreland Heritage Trail at the Murrysville SportZone.

Westmoreland County Little Crabtree Creek Trail

Little Crabtree Creek Trail The Little Crabtree Creek Trail is the first three miles of a 15-mile Old Forbes Road/Little Crabtree Creek greenway that connects Twin Lakes Park to Historic Hanna’s Town and the Loyalhanna Creek Greenway. The trail will follow the Alexandria Branch of the Pennsylvania Railroad.

Westmoreland County Westmoreland Heritage Trail

Westmoreland Heritage Trail The Westmoreland Heritage Trail Chapter is one of the newest chapters of the Regional Trail Corporation.  The trail chapter’s long term goal is acquire and construct a twenty mile hiking and bicycling trail from Saltsburg to Trafford.  Approximately nine miles of trail are completed and open from Saltsburg to Delmont.

Westmoreland County Great Allegheny Passage

Great Allegheny Passage The Youghiogheny River Trail, utilizing the old P. & L. E. Railroad right-of-way from McKeesport to Connellsville, is part of the regional trail system that links Washington, D.C. with Pittsburgh known as the Great Allegheny Passage. The main access points for residents of Westmoreland County are at Cedar Creek Park and West Newton.This walking and biking trail is handicapped accessible and accommodates everyone regardless of age or physical ability.  Heading south, the trail connects to Ohiopyle State Park, Meyersdale and continues to Cumberland, Maryland. To the north, eventually leads into Pittsburgh. There is a camping facility for families or individuals using the trail who wish to stay overnight. The Cedar Creek Trekker Campground is a three-night maximum stay and operates on a first come, first serve basis. There are no shower facilities, but potable water is available.
