Great Allegheny Passage The Youghiogheny River Trail, utilizing the old P. & L. E. Railroad right-of-way from McKeesport to Connellsville, is part of the regional trail system that links Washington, D.C. with Pittsburgh known as the Great Allegheny Passage. The main access points for residents of Westmoreland County are at Cedar Creek Park and West Newton.This walking and biking trail is handicapped accessible and accommodates everyone regardless of age or physical ability. Heading south, the trail connects to Ohiopyle State Park, Meyersdale and continues to Cumberland, Maryland. To the north, eventually leads into Pittsburgh. There is a camping facility for families or individuals using the trail who wish to stay overnight. The Cedar Creek Trekker Campground is a three-night maximum stay and operates on a first come, first serve basis. There are no shower facilities, but potable water is available.
