Village Profile …Our Premise
Laurel Highlands Historical Village, non-profit organization, was founded in 2003 and continues to grow in numbers and size, becoming the only village of its type in North America. Laurel Highlands Historical Village is committed to building a full supporting ethnic village and Enrichment Camp, for children. This far-reaching dream of our corporation is a joint dream of every American who has a past either in America itself or abroad. Many who work with the village are here because they love their ethnic background, and it’s their desire to preserve same.
Education is an integral part of the Laurel Highland’s Historical Village program. Courses and materials, pertaining to all aspects of the operation and the periods and concepts we portray, will be obtainable. In an on-going basis Laurel Highland’s Historical Village will work with area educational institutions and conduct educational programming. The facility will also be the site for regular workshops, seminars and educational demonstrations. Accreditation of education programming is the ultimate goal.
Conceptual Summary
All of these elements combine to create a unique entertainment and educational experience for people of all ages. The Laurel Highland’s Historical Village projections and marketing strategies, as well as funding criteria and requirements, are included in a detailed Business Plan available upon request. Our goal is attainable due to the vast amount of dollars being allocated to nonprofit organizations with such dreams and vision. It’s also going to be home for thousands of children throughout the year, as they seek additional support in after school needs.

Dear Sir:
Below is cover information on our Honan Ave Community Hiking and Biking Trail.
In short we really need your help. Any amount of cash that you can donate this year would help in a big way. We have taken on a huge undertaking rebuilding Honan Ave. and thanks to Quaker Sales and others in the community; we have the project almost done. We still need to gravel and roll the road base, then place benches and signs up. I also want to place your company sign on our road at both ends indicating your support towards building the trail. What we also want to do is place cement benches along the trail with your logo on same. If you can donate $500.00 to $1000.00 we thank you if it is less that’s fine.
Thanks for your help and consideration
Ron Shawley
Executive Director

Honan Ave. Community Hiking and Biking Trail
The trail starts off the River Walk trail in Cambria City, Johnstown, heading North on Honan Ave. Along the 3 mile trail you will be able to view a huge active Beaver dam, small waterfalls and at the end of trail a huge waterfall. Then the trail splits in two parts, one part staying on the western side of the dam, named eagle trail where Bald Eagles can be seen. To reach the Joseph P Whipey trail, you cross the bridge turn left on road and enter at midpoint or by pavilion.
We are also building this year near the starting point of Honan Ave Trail, the LHHV Mountain. Here hiking trails will weave in and out of fields, extending up a slight slope reaching the summit. On the summit will be an over look, with views of Stone Bridge, Johnstown, Cambria City and West End. Keeping it as simple as possible, the trail will allow everyone to not only view native wildlife but learn about plants, wildlife, and the whole eco system. We have already reached out to UPJ Geology Club, and they are going to provide outdoor classes on Geology of region, Space, Weather, and conservation. Also on location will be various ethnic communities show casing their heritage. Parking for Honan Ave Community Hiking and Biking trail is next to the river, signs point the way. Please do not park near gate as this is a turnaround for those living there.
The LHHV Forest
The LHHV Experimental Forest, located 3 miles north of Johnstown, in Middle & East Taylor townships, offers quiet refuge to all who seek the natural enchantment of a forest experience. Tucked away in the heart of the Hinckston Run Dam , the Forest is bordered on its Western ridge boundaries by the Hinckston Dam Wildlife Management Area. The LHHV Forest is located on property that surrounds Hinckston Reservoir . Our hiking trails encompass the wooded area itself. The trail as listed above has stops for resting and watching the area wildlife. We have local students who utilize the Forest Trail as an outside classroom. We are seeking funding to support wildlife projects, i.e. Eagles, blue Birds nest etc.
The hiking trail will starts at current pavilion and running in the same direction as the road which runs the length of reservoir. The total length of trail is 1 mile. At the ¾ mile marker we have an over look whereby hikers are able to sit and watch the water foul and birds. We built the Eagle trail which goes around the western flank of reservoir, ¾ mile trail. On the Eagle Trail you can view Eagles, waterfalls and other wildlife. Also bring your fishing gear, as we have some of the finest fishing in region.
Below is a map showing the future LHHV Mountain and it’s trail. In this map you can see the trail to summit as it will overlook the city below. We plan to connect the LHHV Mountain with Honan Ave Hiking Trail.

DONATIONS NEEDED:
We are in need of shrubbery, flowers, seeds, trees, and vegetables as we will have along the trail gardens, flower beds and shrubbery to make the trails look a little nicer. We are also going to use same as a means of educating our youth, as they will have to identify same. Items can be damaged, or non-sellable. We can also use landscaping materials for ground cover.
