Macaroni Kid covers the area of Johnstown, Ligonier, Ebensburg, Somerset, and Altoona and all of the little nooks and crannies in between but our home base is Johnstown!
Best known for the 1889 flood which killed over 2000 people in 15 minutes, Johnstown Pennsylvania is the best kept secret of western Pennsylvania. Friendly, safe and clean, it is a wonderful place to raise a family. It’s a place where instead of people giving you directions if you are lost, they will put aside what they are doing and lead you there!
Johnstown started out as a thriving steel town and ideal mountain retreat for the wealthy gentry during the 1800’s. It produced more steel in it’s heydey than was produced in the “Steel City” of Pittsburgh.
Now, nestled in the beautiful Laurel Mountains, Johnstown is a regional medical, educational, and communications center. Home to the world class Johnstown Symphony Orchestra, Bottleworks Ethnic Arts Center, Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center, University of Pittsburgh Johnstown Campus, there is always something to enjoy!
When I saw Macaroni Kid, I jumped on the opportunity to share what is so special about Johnstown with others! My name is Julie Follansbee and I’m a wife, mother of a 20 year old college student, 2 pugs, former dressmaker turned alpaca rancher (http://www.laurelhighlandsalpacas.com) and now newsletter publisher! I hope you enjoy the newsletter and pass it on to friends! I also welcome your suggestions for activities!
We’ve had a regular segment on Central Pa Live twice a month since August of 2012. We expanded to the Altoona area in the summer of 2013. In October of 2013 I was awarded the “Neighbor Dorothy” Flying Pig Award. In November of 2013, I was the Featured Publisher.
