Johnstown student awarded for standing up to bullying | WJAC

JOHNSTOWN- A Johnstown middle school student was recognized Wednesday for his actions and choice to stick up for someone being bullied. School officials said it’s something the school has been promoting with their “Be Someone’s Hero” campaign to stop the bullying. Jaiywon Breeden,11, is a fifth grade student at East Side Elementary. The assistant principal, Tom Smith, said when Jaiywon saw another student being bullied, he stood up and stepped in to stop it.

Pennsylvania Mountain Service Corps

Pennsylvania Mountain Service Corps, PMSC, is a local initiative of AmeriCorps. This National Service Movement engages thousands of Americans of all ages and backgrounds in a domestic Peace Corps. Members serve their communities in the areas of education, environment, public safety, and human needs and receive a living stipend, educational monies, and a wealth of experience.

Trail Events – Cambria County Conservation & Recreation Authority

Jim Mayer Trail Family Fun RunJohnstown, PAThe 5k out-and-back course will be along the original section of the Jim Mayer Riverswalk Trail in Johnstown that extends from Riverside to Moxham. Participants will follow the scenic section of the trail along the Stonycreek River and will pass by the Trail Art Murals near the old trolley bridge in Moxham.Kids under the age of 8 years old can participate in the Kids’ Trail Trot at 8:45 a.m. at the 5k start/finish line.All proceeds from the Jim Mayer Trail Family Fun Run will benefit the Friends of the Trails program, which exists to enhance and expand the Cambria County Trails.
