Honan Avenue hiking, biking trail dedicated by LHHV

 

“Honan Avenue is now pretty again,” said Baker, the historical organization’s secretary-treasurer.

Along the way, walkers and bikers can see eagles, a beaver dam and other wildlife while traveling from Johnstown to Hinckston Run Reservoir.

The trail also evokes memories of what Lift Johnstown co­ordinator Brad Clemenson called a “really nice community asset.”

Johnstown – Laurel Highlands – Altoona | Macaroni Kid

Macaroni Kid covers the area of Johnstown, Ligonier, Ebensburg, Somerset, and Altoona and all of the little nooks and crannies in between but our home base is Johnstown!

Best known for the 1889 flood which killed over 2000 people in 15 minutes, Johnstown Pennsylvania is the best kept secret of western Pennsylvania.  Friendly, safe and clean, it is a wonderful place to raise a family.  It’s a place where instead of people giving you directions if you are lost, they will put aside what they are doing and lead you there!

Johnstown started out as a thriving steel town and ideal mountain retreat for the wealthy gentry during the 1800’s.  It produced more steel in it’s heydey than was produced in the “Steel City” of Pittsburgh.

To provide a forum to inspire, motivate and teach young people about their rich cultural and ethnic inheritance through storytelling, handicrafts and skills demonstrations and seminars, period architecture, garments, tools and lifestyles.  We want to provide a powerful and vivid experience that is both entertaining and educational, and engenders in our children and youth interest in the many and varied ethnicities which shaped our nation.
