Agenda / Minutes 05/09/2017

May 9, 2017 LAUREL HIGHLANDS HISTORICAL VILLAGE MONTHLY MEETING HELD AT OUR SONS RESTAURANT.

The meeting was called to order by Executive Director, Ron Shawley. Those in attendance were Chris Sciullo, Calvin Hart, Luke Gustkey, Ron Shawley Patti Defibaugh and Debbie Gates.
Patti Defibaugh gave the treasurer’s report. The grant checking account remains unchanged at $295.00. The checking account total to begin with was $786.93 minus $133.00 for previously approved sound system that will be utilized at our events. Our total for the checking account is $653.93. Minutes from previous meetings are available on the website, and a computer copy is maintained for our records.
Copy of minutes from March and April were given to those in attendance.
Chris Sciullo gave an update on our website. Chris stated there was a fair amount of traffic for the hiking trails. He also suggested when we have an event going on that we post it on the website. Chris will create sub accounts for the website.
We continue our Veterans Food Drive and Ron continues to network with local authorities and the local veterans agencies to distribute food to those in need. A food drive was held on April 29, 2017 at Ebensburg Walmart, and another one is scheduled for May 19, 2017 at the Richland Walmart. We discussed having our next meeting and additional meetings during good weather at the Hinckston Dam at 6pm the first Tuesday of the month.
We received flower seeds from 2 separate companies, and gardens from Jiffy. Ron will be blogging about these items.
On 6/01/2017 we are planning a Honan Ave Trail maintenance and flower planting event.
Anton Parker reached out to us from an article about our group on the United Way Website. Patti is coordinating with Anton on this event.
Ron discussed the Wine Tasting/Dinner/Dance Event. Debbie reported Geoffrey’s went out of business. We will need to look for a new caterer. Ron offered to talk with Tony Rizzo/Anthony’s Restaurant about their providing the meal. At Anthony’s there would be no fee for the room rental. We could ask for prices for an Italian Cuisine. We discussed having a DJ to play music for the evening. We talked about a price per ticket of $30 to $35 per person. Patti and Ron have agreed to meet with Tony Rizzo.
Ron will set up the meeting. The event will be held 10/21/17.
Ron has been working with a Johnstown Vo-Tech class, and they are creating logos for our letterhead. They are also making Veterans Food Drive banners for us to use at each event. Our group will pay for the material and ink costs only.
Debbie spoke to Anna about the Veteran’s Event and told her we would provide cakes for the event. Debbie brought cake mixes. Calvin, Patti, and Debbie volunteered to make the cakes.
Our group has received permission from CSA to build the Veteran’s Memorial at Hinckston Dam. Laurel Highlands Historical Village Veteran’s Memorial sign is in the planning stages.
Ron is creating the program for the Veteran’s Event. Ron will photograph and videotape the event. Calvin will work with veterans talking to children about their individual stories. Patti will greet the politicians and introduce the MC. The Marine Honor Guard will be present. Prayer will be a part of the ceremony. Josh will pass out all of the awards to each veteran after the speakers. There will be a benediction, and taps.

Meeting adjourned at 7:50PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Patti Defibaugh, LHHV, Secretary/Treasurer
